Week 6 Game Preview: Marble Falls Faith Academy at Shiner St. Paul

The Cardinals conclude a three-game home stand by hosting Marble Falls Faith Academy at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow (Friday) at Comanche Stadium.

St. Paul opened district play last week with a 49-0 win over Schertz John Paul II while the Flames fell in their first district game, 26-14, against Austin Texas School for the Deaf.

"Our kids know Marbles Fall Faith is still looking for that first win. They have played some bigger schools in non district and battled playoff contender ATSD. For us, our last two games had the score in our favor and we just want to avoid any kind of letdown," Cardinals head coach Jake Wachsmuth said.

In the past, the Flames have run the ancient Single Wing on offense but with a coaching change this year they are now a spread team.

Faith Academy is balanced with a slight lean towards the running game.

"They line up in the shotgun, one back and two-back formations. Their quarterback is a good runner and can throw the deep ball," Wachsmuth said. They like to run the off tackle, power, lead up the middle, sweep and option out of the shotgun. Our defense will need to stop the run and force them to throw the football."

The Flames come out in an eight-man front on defense, setting up in the 4-4, 5-3 or 3-5.

Wachsmuth said St. Paul did a good job of getting the ball to all of the skilled offensive positions las week as well as reducing both penalties and turnovers.

St. Paul needs to continue cleaning up mistakes.

Key players for Marble Falls Faith Academy are running back Preston Richardson, linebacker John Bryer, defensive back Jonathan Reyes and defensive end Rawley Jackson.
