SHINER — Coming into the game, St. Paul head coach Jake Wachsmuth knew that if his team can execute their game plan, then the Cardinals could win any game they want.

After blowing out Somerville during their homecoming, it’s hard to argue against that point.

The Cardinals opened up the game with 28 unanswered points before giving up a score to the visiting Yeguas. St. Paul would finish the game with a 76-20 win.

T.J. Bell led the Cardinals’ rushing attack with seven carries going for 210 yards and four touchdowns. Due to the romp, St. Paul was able to give carries to five other backs, including Jed Janecek, Tre’Zell Jenkins-Perry, Nathan Wagner, Conor Kresta and Derek Kapavik.

All five of those runners were able to get in the end zone, adding up to St. Paul’s whopping 619 rushing yards total.

Over the air, Austin Barton completed 3-of-6 passes for 81 yards and a score. Catching those passes was Colton Machart who snagged two catches for 75 yards and a touchdown and Ryan Geiger who caught one for six yards.

Somerville’s offense centered around Marlin Nutall who rushed 26 times for 153 yards and a touchdown. The Yeguas also completed two passes, including an 82-yard catch-and-run from Isreal Pena to Isaiah Martinez.

The Cardinals travel to Flatonia this week for a 7:30 p.m. start.
