Game Preview: Schertz John Paul II Guardians at Shiner St. Paul Cardinals
The Cardinals will play in their second district home contest as the Guardians visit Comanche Stadium.
The Cardinals struggled massively with turnovers in last week's 39-21 loss at Boerne Geneva.
"We need to fix what we are doing wrong," he said. "The offense has to take care of the football and the defense needs to pursue the ball better," head coach Jake Wachsmuth said.
On offense, John Paul II uses a three-back set, which Wachsmuth referred to as "flex".
"They have running backs that motion out wide or slots that motion to the backfi eld. Sometimes, they have four receivers and other times, three running backs," he said.
The Guardians' main weapons on offense are running backs Mark Slaughter, Quentin Rhoder, Sammy La Rue and fullback Ryan Grosso.
"On defense we need to play as a team and get everyone to the ball," Wachsmuth said. "If only one or two guys pursue and they miss their tackles, it could be trouble."
