The Shiner St. Paul Cardinals play at Hallettsville Sacred Heart tonight; the Shiner Comanches host Yorktown tomorrow (Friday) to begin a two-game home stand.
St. Paul Cardinals at Sacred Heart Indians
The Cardinal-Indian rivalry is renewed tonight ( Thursday, October 26, 2017 ), but Sacred Heart has a different look to it.
Brad Wright is in his first year as head coach, replacing long-time Indian boss Pat Henke.
The defense is the same but the offense has been overhauled. Wright has brought a shotgun spread look to Sacred Heart, replacing the power-running game.
“It really helps that we have seen some spread offenses this season,” St. Paul head coach Jake Wachsmuth said.
The key to any offense, especially the spread, is the quarterback. Sam Brown will be the man running the Sacred Heart offensive show.
“We will mix up our coverages and pressure. We just need to do what we do well. They have lots of good players on offense,” he said.
St. Paul is still working on squashing the turnover and penalty bug.
