This week, Shiner St. Paul has its first home game as they welcome Victoria St. Joseph while the Shiner Comanches are at Industrial in Vanderbilt. Both contests will kick off tomorrow ( Friday, September 7, 2018 ) at 7:30 p.m.
St. Paul Cardinals vs. Victoria St. Joseph
The Cardinals come off a setback to Yorktown and have their first home game against an equally challenging Victoria St. Joseph at home on Friday at Comanche Stadium.
St. Paul head coach Jake Wachsmuth said Victoria St. Joseph has lots of speed on this year’s team.
The Flyers offense is a spread system and do a lot of things on the perimeter and in the passing game.
Wachsmuth said it is crucial to not give up big plays to the Flyer offense.
“Our defense played well last week against Yorktown but they pulled off some big plays on us,” he said. “We cannot allow St. Joseph to make a big play.”
St. Joseph’s offense will be led by quarterback Jacob Bordovsky who makes plays with his arm or his feet.
He will be helped by a solid line, and a good group of backs and receivers.
The Flyers have a speedy defense and are good at flying to the football.
St. Paul did well at controlling the football on offense but struggled to finish drives with touchdowns.
“Our first possession took up nearly the entire first quarter but we could not punch it because of some critical mistakes,” Wachsmuth said. “We need to score touchdowns when we get in the red zone against St. Joseph.”
The Flyers opened the season with a 59-12 domination over Bloomington. The two teams have not played since 2005.
